The environmental culture of the MARCOPOLO ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP (MEG) stems from a practical need. The ecological journey, in fact, began in the 1970s with the need to dispose of the sewage produced by cattle farms, a family business of Antonio Bertolotto, founder and self-taught inventor of MARCOPOLO patents and processes. This need arose, in 1976, with the advent of the new law that regularized the spreading of animal sewage (the Merli Law, now the Nitrate Law) according to the number of hectares of land per kg of meat raised. From 1978 to 1986, as CICLO S.R.L, the company built the first units of “active bio-transformation” with the construction of plants in Italy, France, Spain, Lebanon and Germany. From 1985 to 1988, the company, with the name of MARCOPOLO B.O.S. S.R.L, begins its exploratory journey on the national, international and transoceanic territory; in fact, at its Bernezzo (CN) headquarters, it carries out basic research on biotechnology and renewable energy, reserving feasibility studies for countries such as Portugal, Tunisia, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, South Africa and the Philippines on the composting of the organic fraction of municipal solid waste, and in Brazil, Paraguay, Ecuador and Bolivia, the execution of application research on solid waste. In 1989 the company takes the name of MARCOPOLO ENGINEERING S.R.L and refines, from a technical point of view, the processes in use, starting their marketing, managing to combine economy and ecology while respecting the environment. Starting from 12 July 2004, MARCOPOLO ENGINEERING becomes a S.P.A.

For over forty years, the entrepreneurial and research activity of MARCOPOLO has been guided by the philosophy that a real “closed cycle” in the environmental field can and must be created; the technical, scientific and industrial tools are there and today we can safely talk about the enhancement of by-products and processing waste by transforming them into biomethane, electrical and thermal energy and into essential amendments, reusable in organic and quality agriculture. Our philosophy can be industrially translated with the following objectives:

  1. clean the air from what is one of the worst causes of acid rain, implementing the safety of landfills after they have been filled with solid urban waste, by capturing the toxic and harmful biogas that is produced for about thirty years during the anaerobic degradation of waste and its destruction using it as a fuel to produce green energy.
  2. recover the FORSU “Organic Fraction of Urban Solid Waste” and compatible biomass, agricultural, livestock and agro-industrial by-products to produce BIOMETHANE – Humus – CSS – Technical CO2 – Microalgae.
  3. recover the surplus animal manure produced in intensive farms with reference to the European legislation on nitrates, redeveloping the land subservient to these farms and regularizing the same, obtaining safety for the sector and employees, obtaining healthier animal feed, aquifers and non-polluting rivers and cleaner water for animal watering and irrigation.
  4. transform animal waste into green energy thus reducing the use of fossils and the emission of CO2, through methanogenesis and the plant balance of algae that digest carbon dioxide producing oxygen.
  5. transform animal manure into HUMUS specifically designed to redevelop land subservient to monocultures, bringing fertility and above all a various micro-biodiversity, also specialized and capable of degrading the chemical residues derived from the massive uses of agropharmaceuticals, herbicides and chemical fertilizers.
  6. in the field of micro technologies, MARCOPOLO boasts thirty years of scientific experience to transform the water obtained from the enhancement of animal “manure in digestate culture broth” into sterilized liquid HUMUS enriched with degrading microorganisms, to be used also in the foliar treatments of agricultural crops, victims of continuous acid deposits.
  7. produce the consortium of non-genetically modified microorganisms which is the basis of the entire chain of our bio-transformations and direct remediation treatments at: landfills, purifiers, unhealthy industries, polluted industrial areas, polluted oil areas.
